The J-Rob Foundation, Inc. was started in May of 2013 as a way for our family to "Pay It Forward". Our son Jason was born in 2003 with a rare congenital spinal disorder, Spinal Segmental Dysgenesis. Because of his diagnosis Jason is unable to walk unassisted and relies on his forearm crutches or wheelchair to ambulate.
Jason has a love of sports and has always dreamed of "running" Utica New York's Boilermaker, one of the nation's largest 15K road races. In the fall of 2012 his school, Westmoreland Elementary, found out about his dream. His classmates, at the time fourth graders, decided to hold fundraisers throughout the fall and winter to try and make his dream come true of completing the 15K in his very own racing wheelchair. Through the many efforts of the Westmoreland school and community Jason was able to compete in the 2013 Boilermaker in his own racing chair. Jason's dream came true, he completed the Boilermaker in one hour and thirteen minutes!
After receiving this wonderful gift our family knew that we needed to do something to "Pay it Forward". Since Jason is very passionate about sports and since the equipment needed for him to play sports is so expensive we realized that creating a foundation that would be able to provide adaptive sporting equipment to other children was a must. This became the vision for the J-Rob Foundation. It is our passion to help other children with physical disabilities achieve their dreams. The Westmoreland community and Elementary School ignited the flame with their kindness and generosity and we aim to keep the flame ablaze!
